The scholarship enables selected candidates to participate in the Power Sector Regulation in Africa course — a comprehensive programme designed to build regulatory capacity and promote sustainable energy development across the continent.

    About the African School of Regulation Scholarship 2026

    The African School of Regulation (ASR) aims to strengthen Africa’s power sector by training professionals in effective regulation, market design, and policy frameworks. Through this initiative, ASR supports professionals seeking to deepen their expertise in electricity market regulation and governance.

    This year, ten scholarships are available for individuals who demonstrate exceptional motivation, relevant professional experience, and a clear commitment to improving Africa’s energy systems.


    Who Can Apply

    The African School of Regulation Scholarship 2026 is open to professionals actively engaged in Africa’s energy landscape. Eligible applicants include those working in:

    • Regulatory authorities
    • Government ministries or agencies
    • Power utilities and distribution companies
    • Academic or research institutions
    • Investment and finance organisations
    • Development and non-governmental organisations

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must meet the following requirements to qualify:

    • Be a citizen of an African country.
    • Hold either:
      • A Master’s degree and at least three (3) years of relevant professional experience, or
      • A Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of experience.
    • Currently be employed in the African energy sector.
    • Show financial need for the scholarship.
    • Be able to commit fully to the online course, including all live sessions, weekly assignments, and the final report.
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to applying the knowledge gained to advance energy regulation and policy in Africa.

    Selection Process

    Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of:

    • The strength of the applicant’s motivation and alignment with the course’s objectives.
    • Demonstrated professional dedication to the growth and transformation of Africa’s energy sector.
    • Proven financial need.

    Course Format and Duration

    The Power Sector Regulation in Africa course is delivered entirely online. It combines interactive live sessions, discussions, and case-based assignments designed to equip participants with both technical knowledge and practical tools for effective regulation and policy design in the power sector.

    Applicants are expected to submit the following documents as part of their application:

    • A Curriculum Vitae (CV) or résumé
    • A copy of the highest academic qualification
    • Contact details of a professional or employer reference
    • A motivation statement outlining:
      • Relevant experience and professional background

      • How the applicant plans to apply the acquired knowledge to support the development of the African energy sector
