This prestigious, fully funded 12-month fellowship by the McCain Institute at Arizona State University is designed to nurture and empower exceptional leaders worldwide who are dedicated to advancing democracy, human rights, and freedom.

    Through this transformative leadership experience, participants join a global community of professionals committed to driving positive change in their societies while building networks that extend across nations and sectors.


    About the McCain Global Leaders Program 2026

    The McCain Global Leaders Program 2026 reflects the legacy of the late U.S. Senator John McCain — a lifelong advocate of democracy and human dignity. The programme provides mid- to senior-level professionals with the knowledge, skills, and networks required to expand their leadership impact on a global scale.

    Participants engage in a year-long journey of immersive learning, character-driven leadership training, and hands-on experiences through virtual and in-person engagements.


    Programme Overview

    • Duration: Approximately 12 months (June 2026 – May 2027)
    • Format: Hybrid (virtual sessions, leadership workshops, and in-person regional and global experiences)
    • Cohort Size: Around 25 participants selected globally
    • Goal: To empower leaders who embody integrity, courage, and commitment to service in promoting democratic values and human rights

    Throughout the fellowship, participants take part in regional study tours, professional development activities, and strategic collaborations with other changemakers. Upon completion, they join a dynamic and influential alumni network supported by the McCain Institute.


    Who Can Apply

    The programme welcomes leaders from all countries and sectors who demonstrate strong leadership capacity and a commitment to democratic and human-centred causes.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Mid- to senior-career professionals with at least five years of professional experience
    • Proven record of leadership and community impact
    • Demonstrated interest in advancing democracy, freedom, and human rights
    • Strong proficiency in English
    • No strict age or formal educational requirements

    The fellowship values diversity and encourages applications from professionals across government, civil society, media, business, and non-profit sectors.
