Selected participants receive structured mentorship, policy training, and financial support to refine their ideas into professional policy briefs that may inform government decision-making.

The primary objectives of the International Policy Ideas Challenge 2026 are to:

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents
- Be one of the following:
- Master’s or PhD students
- Postdoctoral fellows
- Early-career researchers within six years of completing a graduate degree
- Be affiliated with:
- A recognised university, or
- A Canadian non-profit organisation such as an NGO or think tank
- Apply individually or as a team of up to three members, provided all members meet eligibility criteria
Not Eligible
- Employees or casual workers of the Government of Canada
- Individuals currently employed by Global Affairs Canada
What Applicants Must Submit
Applicants are required to submit a short written policy proposal (typically no more than 750 words) that includes:
- A clearly defined international policy problem
- Relevance to Canada’s international priorities
- Original, evidence-based policy recommendations
- Practical and feasible solutions
