    Deadline: February 4, 2026

The International Press Institute (IPI) Global AI Accelerator for Media 2026 is an 8-month support and funding programme designed to help independent, small-to-medium-sized news organizations in Global Majority regions adopt artificial intelligence in a sustainable, ethical, and human-centered way.

This unique initiative empowers media outlets to explore the strategic use of AI tools that enhance editorial quality, boost newsroom efficiency, and drive business growth—without replacing human editorial judgment.

    Programme Description

The Global AI Accelerator for Media supports innovation in journalism by funding and guiding organizations experimenting with AI solutions that strengthen newsroom operations and sustainability. Through expert mentorship and a collaborative environment, participating organizations receive tailored assistance to design, test, and scale their AI strategies.

Over the 8-month period, selected participants will benefit from capacity-building workshops, hands-on training, and access to global networks of media innovators.

Benefits of the Global AI Accelerator for Media

Successful applicants to the International Press Institute (IPI) Global AI Accelerator for Media 2026 will receive:

    • Up to $14,000 in funding to implement an AI-focused newsroom project.
    • Expert-led mentorship, workshops, and training on AI tools, editorial applications, ethical considerations, and sustainability strategies.
    • Personalized advisory services and coaching to guide project design and execution.
    • Access to an international peer community of AI and media innovators to exchange insights and best practices.

This combination of funding, mentorship, and networking offers media organizations the opportunity to experiment with AI safely, responsibly, and strategically.

To qualify for the Global AI Accelerator for Media, organizations must meet the following criteria:

    • Be based in a Global Majority region (including Africa, Asia, Latin America, or the Middle East).
    • Have been operational for at least three years.
    • Employ between 3 and 50 staff members (full-time equivalent).
    • Demonstrate a clear interest in or experience with AI tools, along with a defined newsroom challenge or opportunity that AI could address.

Applicants should provide evidence of a well-defined project idea, including user research, problem identification, and a feasible plan for implementing the grant funding within the 8-month period.
