    About the Alexis Herman Summer Fellowship Program 2026

    The Alexis Herman Summer Fellowship Program 2026 is an eight-week summer fellowship designed to provide students with hands-on experience in public policy, government relations, and advocacy. This initiative is named in honor of The Honorable Alexis M. Herman, the first African-American U.S. Secretary of Labor and Chair of Toyota’s Respect for People Advisory Board.

    Fellows selected for this opportunity will be recognized as “Alexis Herman Fellows”, gaining valuable exposure to legislative processes, corporate policy engagement, and stakeholder relations within a global automotive company.

    The program underscores Toyota’s ongoing commitment to diversity, leadership development, and community engagement in the field of public policy.


    Key Responsibilities

    During the Alexis Herman Summer Fellowship Program 2026, fellows will have the opportunity to contribute to several high-impact projects, including:

    • Preparing policy issue presentations, reports, and internal briefing documents.
    • Monitoring and summarizing federal legislative activities such as hearings, regulatory updates, and relevant agency actions.
    • Drafting background materials, position statements, and advocacy documents.
    • Assisting Government Affairs (GA) staff with research, analysis, and administrative support related to public policy initiatives.

    This immersive experience enables participants to deepen their understanding of how government relations and corporate policy intersect in real-world contexts.
