    The IAPS AI Policy Fellowship 2026 offers a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience, expand your policy network, and contribute meaningfully to national and international AI governance conversations.


    Overview of the IAPS AI Policy Fellowship 2026

    The AI Policy Fellowship is organised by the Institute for AI Policy and Strategy (IAPS) and runs for three months, combining in‑person engagement with flexible remote work. Fellows collaborate with leading AI policy experts to address pressing governance challenges related to advanced artificial intelligence systems.

    This fellowship is designed to strengthen the global pipeline of AI policy talent by equipping participants with applied policy skills, strategic insight, and direct exposure to policymaking environments.


    Fellowship Duration and Key Dates

    • Application Deadline: 2 February 2026 (Pacific Time)
    • Fellowship Period: 1 June – 21 August 2026
    • Mandatory In‑Person Residency: 1–12 June 2026
    • Location of Residency: Washington, D.C., United States

    Attendance at the in‑person residency is compulsory for all selected fellows.


    Fellowship Structure

    1. In‑Person Residency (Washington, D.C.)

    The fellowship begins with a two‑week in‑person residency in Washington, D.C. During this period, fellows:

    • Engage directly with AI policy experts and practitioners
    • Participate in workshops, briefings, and strategy sessions
    • Build professional networks with peers and mentors

    2. Mentored Project Work

    Following the residency, fellows spend approximately 10 weeks working remotely or from Washington, D.C. on policy‑relevant projects under the guidance of an experienced mentor. Project outputs may include:

    • Policy briefs and memos
    • Strategic research and analysis
    • Stakeholder engagement and convenings
    • Briefings for policymakers and institutions

    Financial Support and Benefits

    The IAPS AI Policy Fellowship 2026 is fully funded and provides financial support to ensure broad participation:

    • Senior Fellows: USD 22,000 stipend
    • Fellows: USD 15,000 stipend

    In exceptional cases, part‑time fellowship arrangements may be considered.
