These seed grants are designed to empower media organizations to develop, test, and launch new media programming that encourages public engagement, policy awareness, and sustainable development discourse in Nepal.
About the Seed Grants
The Seed Grants for Media Outlets to Cover Natural Resource Management and Green Growth provide targeted financial and technical support to Nepal-based media outlets. Through these grants, EJN seeks to help news organizations create impactful, solutions-oriented journalism that informs the public and influences decision-makers.
Each selected outlet will receive funding to pilot fresh and compelling media initiatives that shed light on how communities, industries, and governments can balance growth with sustainable natural resource use.

The grant supports the creation of at least two media outputs (stories, episodes, or programs) that address key issues surrounding green growth and natural resource management. Grantees will also receive mentorship and technical support from senior journalists and subject-matter experts throughout the grant period.
Focus Areas
The program encourages innovative and solutions-driven journalism that explores:
- The sustainable use and conservation of natural resources
- Green growth initiatives at local, regional, or national levels
- Policies or practices promoting environmentally responsible development
- Community efforts addressing the balance between economic growth and ecological preservation
Eligibility Criteria
This call is open to media outlets based in Nepal, including:
- Print media (newspapers, magazines)
- Online news platforms
- Television and radio broadcasters
- Multimedia and social media-based outlets
Applicants must propose a new, original media programming idea focused on natural resource management or green growth. Each proposal should include a plan to produce at least two stories or episodes as a proof of concept.
Applications may be submitted in English or Nepali.
Ethical Guidelines
Applicants are expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards in journalism. This includes:
- Transparent use of generative AI tools (if applicable)
- Original, plagiarism-free content
- Fair, balanced, and fact-based reporting
Media organizations that have previously received EJN seed grant funding (in 2024 or 2025) are not eligible to apply.
Additional Support
Beyond financial assistance, selected media outlets will benefit from technical mentorship and editorial guidance. This hands-on support aims to ensure the development of high-quality, impactful environmental journalism that inspires action and strengthens public understanding of green growth and sustainable resource management.
