Call for Applications for Funding for Green and Digital Transition Projects in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda

    Deadline: January 30, 2026

The Call for Applications for Funding for Green and Digital Transition Projects in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda is now open. The programme provides an exciting opportunity for organizations committed to advancing sustainable, innovative, and inclusive solutions across Africa.

This initiative, launched by the Estonian Centre for International Development Cooperation (ESTDEV), seeks project proposals that promote green and digital transformation, foster innovation ecosystems, strengthen education systems, and empower women and girls in the participating countries.

    Funding Overview

A total budget of approximately €600,000 has been allocated for this funding round. Grants will typically range from €50,000 to €100,000, with the possibility of up to €150,000 for projects that include scholarship activities.

Projects may receive funding for up to 95% of eligible project costs, with applicants required to contribute at least 5% co-funding. This funding is designed to support innovative, scalable, and impactful initiatives that align with the thematic focus areas of the programme.

    Key Focus Areas

Eligible projects should directly contribute to one or more of the following thematic areas:

    1. Green and Digital Transition

Projects combining environmental sustainability and digital innovation to address social and economic challenges. Proposals that integrate digital tools into green solutions are highly encouraged.

    2. Innovation Ecosystems

Initiatives that strengthen entrepreneurship, develop digital solutions, and foster cross-border partnerships — especially those benefiting Zambia and Uganda.

    3. Education System Reform

Projects that improve the quality, inclusivity, and relevance of education systems. Emphasis is placed on competency-based learning and stronger links between education and the labour market.

    4. People-Centred E-Governance and Cyber Intelligence

Actions that promote digital leadership, secure online services, artificial intelligence for governance, and effective collaboration between public and private sectors.

    5. Empowerment of Women and Girls

Projects focused on promoting digital skills, leadership, and STEM education opportunities for women and girls — particularly in Kenya and Uganda.

    Who Can Apply

    Eligible applicants include:

    • Organizations, institutions, and civil society groups engaged in development cooperation, innovation, education, digital governance, or gender equality.
    • Partnerships between Estonian organizations and local partners in the participating countries are strongly encouraged to enhance knowledge transfer and sustainability.

    Important Dates

    • Application Deadline: 30 January 2026
    • Project Implementation Period: Projects should begin no later than 1 March 2026 and may run until 31 October 2027.
    • Project Duration: Approximately 18–22 months.

Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals well ahead of the deadline to ensure compliance with all technical and administrative requirements.

    How to Apply

Interested organizations can submit their proposals through the official ESTDEV Application Portal. Applicants should carefully review all eligibility and submission guidelines before applying to ensure their proposals align with the funding objectives and requirements.

At the bottom of this post, you will find links to apply directly and to read more about the programme.
