    Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for the James McCune Smith Scholarships 2026, applicants must:

    • Identify as Black UK-domiciled, including the following ethnic backgrounds:
      • Black African
      • Black Caribbean
      • Black Other
      • Mixed White and Black Caribbean
      • Mixed White and Black African
      • Other mixed backgrounds that include Black African or Black Caribbean heritage
    • Hold (or be expected to obtain) the academic qualifications required for PhD study.
    • Demonstrate research interest aligned with any discipline offered by the University of Glasgow.

    A minimum of twelve (12) scholarships will be awarded for the 2026 academic year.


    Programme Duration

    The scholarship supports a full-time PhD programme for up to four years, allowing candidates ample time to complete their research and professional training.
