    Addressing Health Disparities Fellowship 2026

    Deadline: January 16, 2026

The Addressing Health Disparities Fellowship 2026 is an empowering opportunity by the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) designed to support U.S. newsrooms committed to producing rigorous, community-centered journalism that highlights solutions to health inequities affecting Latino communities. This year-long fellowship offers funding, training, and mentorship to help journalists and editors strengthen their coverage of health disparities through a solutions-focused approach.

About the Addressing Health Disparities Fellowship 2026

The fellowship aims to deepen and expand news coverage around the critical issue of health disparities, particularly within Latino communities across the United States. Selected newsrooms will learn and apply the principles of solutions journalism — a reporting framework that investigates and explains how people and institutions respond to social challenges.

Through a mix of funding, mentorship, and structured learning, the program helps participating newsrooms explore what’s working to reduce health inequities and how such efforts can be replicated or improved in other communities.

    Fellowship Benefits

Newsrooms selected for the Addressing Health Disparities Fellowship 2026 will receive comprehensive support designed to enhance their impact and reach:

    • Grant Support: Each participating newsroom receives a $14,000 grant, which includes funding for travel to attend a journalism conference in 2027.
    • Professional Training: Fellows benefit from extensive training in solutions journalism and health reporting, equipping them with innovative storytelling and research tools.
    • Ongoing Mentorship: Newsrooms participate in monthly coaching sessions and cohort meetings, fostering continuous improvement and shared learning.
    • Collaborative Community: Fellows join a peer network of journalists and editors committed to advancing equitable, impactful health coverage across Latino-serving newsrooms.

    Eligibility Criteria

The Addressing Health Disparities Fellowship 2026 welcomes applications from newsrooms of all sizes and formats — print, digital, broadcast, or hybrid — that are passionate about producing in-depth, community-focused reporting. Ideal candidates include:

    • Newsrooms with demonstrated commitment to reporting on Latino communities or those seeking to expand their focus in this area.
    • Teams capable of producing enterprise-level stories that highlight real-world solutions to health inequities.
    • Editors and newsroom leaders eager to integrate solutions journalism principles into their reporting culture.
    • Organizations willing to collaborate, innovate, and engage audiences around actionable stories of change.

No prior experience in solutions journalism is required. What matters most is curiosity, collaboration, and commitment to advancing equitable storytelling.
