    James R. Jewett Prize 2026

    The James R. Jewett Prize 2026 is now open for applications, offering financial support to researchers conducting original studies on the biology of flowers and/or fruits. This prestigious research prize provides funding of up to US $10,000 and supports innovative scientific work, particularly research that engages with living plant collections.

    The James R. Jewett Prize 2026 is administered by the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, a globally recognised institution for plant science research and botanical collections.


    About the James R. Jewett Prize 2026

    The James R. Jewett Prize is designed to encourage and advance high-quality research in plant reproductive biology, with a specific focus on flowers and fruits. The prize supports projects that contribute new insights to plant science and botany, especially those that make use of curated living collections.

    Preference is given to researchers whose work will benefit from access to the Arnold Arboretum’s extensive plant collections.


    Funding Value

    • Award Amount: Up to US $10,000
    • Eligible Costs:
      • Research expenses
      • Travel related to the proposed research project

    The funding may be used flexibly, provided it directly supports the approved research activities.


    Who Can Apply

    Applications are open to:

    • Researchers conducting original research on the biology of flowers and/or fruits

    • Early-career researchers and non-faculty applicants (with additional documentation requirements)

    Required Application Materials

    Applicants must submit the following documents through the online application system:

    1. Cover Letter

    A brief introduction outlining the purpose of the application and the applicant’s interest in the James R. Jewett Prize.

    2. Research Statement (1–2 Pages)

    A detailed description of the proposed research project, including:

    • Research objectives
    • Methodology
    • Expected outcomes
    • How the James R. Jewett Prize funding will support the work
    • How the Arnold Arboretum’s resources will be used

    3. Research Budget (1 Page)

    A clear, itemised breakdown of anticipated project costs.

    4. Project Timeline

    Proposed start and end dates for the research.

    5. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

    6. Letters of Recommendation

    • Two letters required for applicants who are not faculty members or principal investigators
    • Referees must submit their letters directly via the online system
