    The UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize 2026 is now open for nominations, recognising outstanding young social science researchers whose work has made a significant contribution to social development policy and research in Latin America and the Caribbean. This prestigious biennial award celebrates impactful scholarship that advances evidence-based policy and social transformation across the region.

    The UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize 2026 is administered by UNESCO and funded by the Government of the Dominican Republic in honour of Juan Bosch, a distinguished intellectual, writer, and political leader.


    About the UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize 2026

    The UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize for the Promotion of Social Science Research in Latin America and the Caribbean was established to encourage and reward high-quality social science research that directly informs public policy and contributes to sustainable social development.

    The Prize highlights research that:

    • Demonstrates academic excellence
    • Addresses pressing social challenges
    • Influences or supports social development policies in the region

    Prize Value and Benefits

    • Monetary award: USD 12,000
    • Official recognition by UNESCO
    • Diploma awarded to the laureate

    Who Is Eligible?

    To be considered for the UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize 2026, nominees must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a social science researcher under the age of 40
    • Have conducted research related to Latin America and the Caribbean
    • Demonstrate that their work contributes meaningfully to social development policy
    • Nationality is not restricted; researchers from any country may be nominated, provided the research focus aligns with the region

    Nomination Requirements

    Self-nominations are not accepted. All candidates must be nominated by an eligible body.

    Who Can Nominate?

    Nominations may be submitted by:

    • Governments of UNESCO Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, or
    • Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO and active in relevant fields

    Required Nomination Documents

    Each nomination must be submitted in English or French and include:

    1. A detailed description of the candidate’s background and achievements
    2. A summary of the research work, including outcomes and relevant publications or supporting documents
    3. A statement explaining how the candidate’s work aligns with the objectives of the UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize

    Selection Process

    All valid nominations are reviewed by a designated international jury in line with UNESCO’s prize regulations. The selected laureate will be officially announced by UNESCO following the evaluation process.

    • Deadline: 15 February 2026
    • Time: Midnight (GMT +1, Paris time)

    Late submissions will not be considered.
