    The Harry Frank Guggenheim African Fellow Awards aim to support Ph.D. students based in Africa who are investigating key issues related to violence and conflict. The program provides financial assistance, mentorship, and professional development resources to enable researchers to deepen their scholarly work and strengthen the capacity of African universities in producing innovative research on peace and security.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the Harry Frank Guggenheim African Fellow Awards 2026-2027, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Be 45 years old or younger.
    • Be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program at an accredited African university.
    • Reside in Africa throughout the fellowship period.
    • Conduct a research project that directly relates to Africa and aligns with the Foundation’s core interest in understanding and reducing violence.
    • Applicants from all countries are welcome to apply, provided the above conditions are met.

    • Ethnic, racial, or religious tensions

    These themes reflect the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to advancing scholarly understanding of violence in its diverse forms.

    Fellowship Benefits

    Selected fellows will receive comprehensive support to advance their research and professional growth. Benefits include:

    • Research grant of up to $10,000 for fieldwork and related expenses.
