    Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program 2026-2027

    The Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program 2026-2027 (Fully Funded) is a prestigious bilateral scholarship designed to strengthen academic cooperation, research collaboration, and cultural exchange between Canada and China. Established in 1973, this long-standing programme supports Canadian citizens to study, conduct research, or pursue professional development in China during the 2026–2027 academic year.

    The Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program 2026-2027 (Fully Funded) is jointly administered by Global Affairs Canada and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, making it one of the most respected international exchange programmes available to Canadians.


    About the Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program

    The Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) aims to promote mutual understanding and long-term collaboration between Canadian and Chinese institutions. It supports a wide range of academic and professional activities, including non-degree study, full degree programmes, research placements, and short-term professional exchanges.

    The programme is open to students, faculty members, researchers, and mid-career professionals whose work demonstrates a strong academic or professional interest in China or China-related studies.


    Eligible Applicants

    Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

    • Must be a Canadian citizen
    • Must have a strong academic or professional background
    • Must demonstrate a clear interest in China or China-related research or studies
    • Must be available to reside in China during the 2026–2027 academic year
    • Must meet language requirements, where applicable:
      • HSK Level 3 for undergraduate studies conducted in Chinese
      • HSK Level 4 for graduate programmes conducted in Chinese

    Who Can Apply

    • Undergraduate and graduate students
    • Faculty members and academic researchers
    • Mid-career professionals seeking short-term academic or professional engagement

    Programme Categories and Duration

    The duration of the scholarship depends on the applicant category:

    • Students (non-degree programmes): 4 to 12 months
    • Graduate degree students: 12 to 24 months (with the possibility of completing a full degree)
    • Faculty, researchers, and mid-career professionals: 1 to 12 months

    Recent programme updates provide increased flexibility, particularly for graduate students and professionals seeking shorter stays.


    Scholarship Benefits

    The Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program 2026-2027 is fully funded and includes support from both the Chinese Government Scholarship and Global Affairs Canada.

    Financial Support Includes:

    From the Chinese Government Scholarship:

    • Full tuition coverage at participating Chinese institutions
    • Monthly living allowance:
      • ¥2,500 for undergraduate students
      • ¥3,000 for Master’s students and general scholars
      • ¥3,500 for doctoral and senior scholars
    • On-campus accommodation or a housing subsidy
    • Comprehensive medical insurance during the programme period

    From Global Affairs Canada:

    • Round-trip international travel between Canada and China

    Application Process

    Applicants are required to complete two separate applications:

    1. My EduCanada Portal Application
      • Deadline: 12 January 2026
    2. China Scholarship Council (CSC) Portal Application
      • Deadline: 1 March 2026

    Both applications must be completed to be considered for the scholarship.


    Selection Criteria

    Applications are evaluated based on:

    • Academic or professional merit
    • Quality, clarity, and feasibility of the proposed study or research plan
    • Relevance of the proposed work to China
    • Demonstrated commitment to sharing knowledge and outcomes with the Canadian public

    Programme Timeline

    • January 2026: EduCanada application deadline
    • March 2026: CSC application deadline
    • February–March 2026: Pre-selection notifications (typical)
    • Summer 2026: Final selection results
    • 2026–2027: Programme implementation (up to 24 months for eligible categories)
