    The UNFCCC Internship 2026 is an opportunity for students and young professionals interested in climate change, education, youth engagement, and international development to gain hands-on experience with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat. This internship is hosted under the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) programme, which focuses on climate education, training, public awareness, public participation, and youth involvement.

    The UNFCCC Internship 2026 offers practical exposure to international climate processes while supporting meaningful global climate action initiatives.


    About the UNFCCC Secretariat

    The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat supports the global response to climate change by assisting governments in implementing international climate agreements. Through its work, the Secretariat promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and inclusive participation across all sectors of society.


    Internship Programme: Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE)

    The internship is hosted within the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) team. ACE is a key pillar of the UNFCCC process, aimed at empowering individuals and communities to engage in climate action through education, training, public awareness, access to information, public participation, and international cooperation.

    This role places a strong emphasis on youth and children’s engagement, climate education initiatives, and communication activities.


    Internship Responsibilities

    Interns selected for the UNFCCC Internship 2026 will support the ACE team in a variety of programme and communication activities, including:

    • Assisting in the preparation and organisation of events related to climate education, youth engagement, and public awareness
    • Supporting the development of agendas, presentations, technical documents, and reports
    • Conducting research related to Action for Climate Empowerment and climate issues affecting children and youth
    • Assisting with outreach and communication activities, including newsletters, website content, and LinkedIn group updates
    • Supporting collaboration with partners and participating in team meetings
    • Providing administrative and coordination support to ongoing ACE initiatives

    Eligibility Requirements

    Applicants for the UNFCCC Internship 2026 must meet the following criteria:

    • Be enrolled in the final year of an undergraduate degree or in a graduate programme (Master’s or PhD) at a recognised university at the time of application and throughout the internship period
    • Demonstrate fluency in English, both written and spoken
    • Possess strong analytical, research, and writing skills
    • Have an academic background in social sciences, environmental sciences, education, or pedagogy (preferred)
    • Have prior experience with training programmes, international events, or educational initiatives (an asset)
    • Be proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

    Financial Information

    • The UNFCCC Internship 2026 is unpaid
    • Interns are fully responsible for travel, accommodation, living expenses, insurance, and all other personal costs incurred before, during, and after the internship

    Applications must be submitted through the official UNFCCC online recruitment system. Applicants are required to prepare and submit a cover letter explaining their motivation, relevant skills, and suitability for the internship.
