    About the LSHTM Research Fellowship 2026

    This fellowship supports a Research Fellow position within the Department of Population Health (DPH) at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. The role is part of the Hararghe Health Research Partnership, a collaborative initiative between Haramaya University (Ethiopia) and LSHTM.

    The research programme focuses on understanding perinatal mortality and its associated risk factors in eastern Hararghe, Ethiopia. The successful candidate will play a key analytical role, contributing to evidence generation aimed at improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.


    Fellowship Host Institution

    The fellowship is hosted by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), one of the world’s leading universities specialising in public health, epidemiology, and global health research. LSHTM is internationally recognised for its research excellence, policy influence, and global partnerships.


    Position Details

    • Job Title: Research Fellow
    • Department: Department of Population Health (DPH)
    • Research Area: Perinatal mortality and population health
    • Funding Body: National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA
    • Contract Type: Fixed‑term
    • Working Hours: Part‑time (17.5 hours per week)
    • Contract Duration: Until 31 August 2026, with the possibility of extension
    • Duty Station: Haramaya University, Ethiopia

    Salary and Benefits

    Successful applicants will receive a competitive remuneration and benefits package:

    • Salary Scale: LSHTM Grade 6
    • Annual Salary: £45,728 – £51,872 per annum (pro rata, inclusive of London weighting)
    • Annual Leave: 30 working days per year (pro rata)
    • Additional Benefits:
      • Discretionary wellbeing days
      • Access to LSHTM pension scheme

    Key Responsibilities

    The Research Fellow will:

    • Lead and support quantitative analysis of perinatal mortality data
    • Work with health and demographic surveillance datasets
    • Contribute to study design, data interpretation, and reporting
    • Collaborate closely with researchers at LSHTM and Haramaya University
    • Support dissemination of research findings through reports and publications

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants for the LSHTM Research Fellowship 2026 must meet the following requirements:

    Essential Qualifications and Experience

    • A postgraduate degree in demography, epidemiology, population health, or a closely related discipline
    • Strong quantitative research and data analysis skills
    • Experience working with health and demographic surveillance data
    • Proficiency in R, Stata, or similar statistical software

    Desirable Experience

    • Prior research experience in Ethiopia or similar low‑ and middle‑income country settings
    • Experience working on maternal, newborn, or perinatal health research projects
