    World Press Institute Fellowship 2026

    Deadline: February 15, 2026

The World Press Institute Fellowship 2026 is a prestigious, fully-funded programme designed for non-U.S. journalists seeking to deepen their understanding of journalism in a cross-cultural context. This fellowship provides an immersive experience across multiple U.S. cities, offering unparalleled exposure to American media, politics, and culture.

What is the World Press Institute Fellowship 2026?

The World Press Institute Fellowship 2026 allows international journalists to participate in a nine-week, fully funded program across the United States. Fellows will travel to major cities including Washington D.C., New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota).

    The program offers:

    • Engagements with leading U.S. media outlets, think tanks, advocacy organisations, and experts in journalism.
    • Insights into the role of free press in a democracy and the importance of media in promoting accountability and transparency.
    • Opportunities for fellows to report, observe, and actively participate in journalistic activities throughout the program.

This fellowship is ideal for journalists looking to expand their professional horizons and bring global perspectives back to their home countries.

Supervisory or editorial roles are also eligible if the applicant has five years of experience as a working journalist.
    • Work completed as a university student (e.g., campus newspaper or radio) does not count toward the five-year requirement.
    • Be currently employed as a journalist outside the United States.
    • Demonstrate fluency in written and spoken English.
    • Show potential for leadership, reflecting a commitment to journalism, integrity, and professional ambition.

    Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive a fully funded fellowship covering:

    • Round-trip airfare from their home country to the United States.
    • Domestic travel during the program across multiple U.S. cities.
    • Lodging throughout the nine-week program.
    • A modest per diem for meals and incidental expenses.
