About the Kenneth Roth Practitioner-In-Residence Program 2025-2026
This programme offers a one-year residency beginning in mid-February 2026. Selected practitioners will be placed in either the Research & Investigations Department or the Advocacy Department, depending on their background, expertise, and career goals. The residency encourages hands-on experience, multidisciplinary collaboration, and active engagement with global human rights stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Participants in the residency will contribute significantly to the host organisation’s human rights work. Core responsibilities include:
1. Research and Monitoring
- Investigating and documenting human rights abuses.
- Gathering and analysing information from a wide range of sources, including government bodies, NGOs, media, academic publications, and victim interviews.
- Conducting in-depth research to support reports, briefings, and advocacy strategies.
2. Reporting and Publications
- Drafting and contributing to various written outputs such as:
- Research reports
- Briefing papers
- Policy submissions
- News releases
- Op-eds and commentary pieces
- Supporting the development of persuasive advocacy and communication materials.
3. Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement
- Engaging with governments, intergovernmental organisations, civil society, and media to advance policy reforms and influence decision makers.
- Working closely with advocacy teams to design strategies that address human rights challenges.
- Contributing to campaigns aimed at changing harmful laws, policies, or practices.
4. Multimedia and Communications Support
- Collaborating with media specialists to create audiovisual materials for advocacy.
- Supporting digital advocacy initiatives where relevant.
5. Field and Mission Work
- Participating in domestic and international travel for fact-finding missions or advocacy engagements.
- Working in cross-functional teams in diverse environments.
Compensation and Benefits
- For U.S.-based placements, the annual salary range is USD $80,000 – $88,000.
- For placements outside the United States, salary packages vary based on location.
- The programme ensures equitable compensation aligned with local standards and responsibilities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to human rights and possess relevant professional experience. Minimum requirements include:
- At least five years of professional human rights research or advocacy experience.
- A track record of meaningful impact in human rights work.
- A combination of education and experience that signals strong potential to contribute effectively.
- Strong analytical, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
- Proficiency in English; additional language skills are highly desirable.
