    Seattle Children’s Research Institute Summer Scholars Program 2026

    The Seattle Children’s Research Institute Summer Scholars Program 2026 is a fully structured, mentored research internship designed to equip undergraduate students with hands-on experience in biomedical, public health, behavioural and clinical research. This competitive nine-week programme offers robust professional development, guided research work and opportunities to explore research career pathways. The Seattle Children’s Research Institute Summer Scholars Program 2026 is ideal for students seeking their first formal research experience.


    Introduction

    The Summer Scholars Program is a paid summer research internship hosted by Seattle Children’s Research Institute. It provides undergraduate students with direct mentorship in a research environment while building foundational research skills. Over the nine-week period, scholars engage in active research, career-building workshops, professional development and community-building activities. The programme culminates in a formal presentation of research findings, giving participants practical, résumé-ready experience in scientific communication.


    About the Opportunity

    The programme offers research opportunities across basic science, clinical, community-based and translational research areas. Scholars work approximately 35 hours per week under the guidance of experienced research mentors. The curriculum includes:

    • Research ethics and responsible conduct of research (RCR) training
    • Professional development workshops
    • Career pathway exploration
    • Networking and scientific community engagement
    • An end-of-programme poster symposium and abstract publication

    This intensive experience helps students gain clarity on research careers while building confidence and technical skills.


    Eligibility

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Be at least 18 years old at the start of the programme
    • Hold a valid Social Security Number (SSN) or ITIN
    • Be a current undergraduate student enrolled in a community college, technical college or university
    • Be in good academic standing
    • Graduates, students graduating before or during programme start, graduate students and medical students are not eligible

    Additional expectations include strong interest in biomedical sciences, behavioural health, public health or related STEM fields. Applicants do not need prior formal research experience; priority is given to those seeking their first research internship. Communication skills, attention to detail, confidentiality adherence and teamwork skills are also required.


    Benefits / Award Details

    Participants of the Summer Scholars Program receive:

    • US $7,100 summer stipend
    • US $400 food stipend
    • ORCA transportation card for commuting within the Seattle area

    Please note: Housing is not provided. Participants must reside in or commute to the Seattle region for the entire duration.


    Application Requirements / Documents

    A complete application requires:

    • A current CV or résumé
    • A detailed personal statement outlining interest in biomedical/public health research, career goals, relevant skills and motivation
    • At least one letter of recommendation (must be received by the stated deadline)

    • Applications open: 17 November 2025 (8:00 a.m. PST)
    • Application deadline: 2 January 2026 (11:59 p.m. PST)
    • Recommendation letters due: 16 January 2026 (11:59 p.m. PST)
