    Deadline: February 2, 2026

The New America Fellows Program Class of 2027 offers an exceptional opportunity for thinkers, creators, researchers, and storytellers committed to shaping public understanding on critical societal issues. This prestigious fellowship supports individuals who aim to develop ambitious, long-form or multimedia projects that spark conversations and influence public discourse. The programme is designed to provide the intellectual environment, financial backing, and community support necessary to bring transformative ideas to life. The New America Fellows Program Class of 2027 encourages applications from a wide range of disciplines and welcomes international applicants.

    About the Opportunity

The New America Fellows Program supports journalists, scholars, public policy analysts, filmmakers, authors, and other innovative thinkers working on projects with wide public relevance. The fellowship runs for one year and provides an intellectual home for fellows to focus on substantial creative or research work.

Fellows engage a community of practitioners and thinkers, participate in gatherings, and receive institutional support to advance their work. The programme accommodates traditional and non-traditional project formats, such as books, documentary films, longform journalism, policy analysis, multimedia storytelling, and more.

    Eligibility

Applicants must be individuals working in fields such as journalism, scholarship, filmmaking, or public-policy analysis. The programme is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens, and individuals who may be based outside the United States during part or all of the fellowship period are eligible to apply. The fellowship seeks applicants whose projects demonstrate clarity, creativity, boldness, and the potential to reach and influence broad audiences.

    Benefits / Award Details

Fellows receive an unrestricted stipend ranging from US $15,000 to US $30,000, which may be used to support research, project development, travel, multimedia production, or as an income supplement during the fellowship period.

    • Access to a vibrant community of fellows and alumni
    • Opportunities to collaborate with experts within the host organisation
    • Virtual programming and two in-person gatherings held in Washington, DC
