About the Opportunity

The Food Leaders Fellowship is an initiative of the Aspen Institute’s Food & Society programme. It brings together a diverse cohort of high-potential individuals who are driving meaningful change at local, national, and regional levels. The fellowship challenges participants to reflect deeply on their leadership, engage with complex issues within the food system, and develop strategic solutions to amplify positive impact.

Over the course of 18 months, fellows take part in rigorous in-person seminars, curated site visits, peer-learning sessions, expert-led discussions, and virtual gatherings. Each participant develops a personalised action plan that aligns with their long-term food-system vision and current body of work. The initiative also supports a lasting community of collaboration, allowing fellows to stay connected beyond the official programme’s duration.

Eligibility

The fellowship is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be based in the United States, Mexico, or Canada.
  • Demonstrated innovators, leaders, or changemakers within the food system.
  • Individuals with early yet promising achievements, who show strong potential for long-term impact and influence.
  • Leaders committed to cross-sector collaboration, creative problem-solving, and system-wide transformation.
  • Applicants who value personal growth, leadership reflection, and community building.
  • Full commitment to attending all required in-person seminars and actively participating throughout the 18-month programme.
