Participants are required to submit well-reasoned written essays accompanied by short video or audio recordings defending their forecasts.

    About the Opportunity

    Organised by EdTechnical, the Education in 2028: AIEd Forecasting Competition aims to explore how AI will transform teaching, learning, and educational systems by 2028. The competition requires participants to submit a written analytical essay of 500–1,000 words and a 2–5 minute video or audio recording defending their forecast.

    Participants can choose from one of the following thematic tracks:

    1. Teaching Profession
    2. Cognitive Development & Mathematics Education
    3. Student Motivation, Personalisation & Socialisation
    4. Higher Education Assessment & Academic Integrity
    5. AI Tutoring

    Eligibility

    The competition is open to anyone with a thoughtful vision of AI in education, including educators, students, policymakers, researchers, and edtech founders. Key eligibility criteria include:

    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Open globally with no prior AI expertise required
    • Free entry

    This inclusivity ensures a diverse range of perspectives and innovative ideas that reflect global educational needs and trends.


    Benefits and Award Details

    The total prize pool for the competition is up to $25,000, distributed across 50 awards – 10 awards per thematic track. The prize structure includes:

    • 1 Grand Prize: $2,500
    • 4 Runner-Ups: $500 each
    • 5 Honourable Mentions: $100 each

    This substantial reward recognises innovative thinking, thorough research, and impactful insights.


    Application Requirements

    To participate, applicants must submit the following:

    1. Written essay (500–1,000 words) with a clear, defendable forecast.
    2. Video or audio recording (2–5 minutes) explaining and defending your predictions.

    Submission Guidelines

    • Use data and trends to support your forecasts.
    • Explain the social, political, or technological conditions influencing your predictions.
    • Avoid extreme certainty (like 0% or 100%) unless fully justified.
    • Clarify why your forecast matters for the future of education.
    • Choose a reference context (country, region, or global system) to strengthen relevance.

    Timeline and Key Dates

    • Submission Deadline: 16 December 2025, 23:59 GMT
    • Winners will be notified within approximately 60 days of the deadline.

    Selection Process

    Submissions are evaluated by a distinguished panel of experts from leading organisations such as:

    • Gates Foundation
    • Google DeepMind
    • OpenAI
    • Khan Academy
    • Stanford University
    • Oak National Academy

    Evaluation criteria include the quality of reasoning, clarity of expression, defensibility of predictions, and use of evidence.
