African Youth Ambassadors for Peace – 4th Cohort

    Deadline: December 15, 2025

The African Youth Ambassadors for Peace – 4th Cohort call for applications is now open, offering young leaders across the continent an opportunity to actively contribute to peace, security, and youth empowerment in Africa. This prestigious initiative forms part of the African Union’s Youth for Peace (Africa) Programme, which continues to strengthen youth participation in peacebuilding and conflict prevention. The African Youth Ambassadors for Peace – 4th Cohort aims to empower outstanding young Africans to advocate, mobilise, and support the implementation of critical peace and security agendas across Africa.

    About the Opportunity

The African Youth Ambassadors for Peace (AYAP) initiative is an integral component of the African Union’s Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) Department. It directly supports the Youth for Peace (Africa) Programme (Y4P), designed to promote meaningful youth engagement and leadership in continental peace and security processes.

AYAPs play a strategic role in advancing the five priorities of the AU Continental Framework on Youth, Peace and Security (CFYPS). Their responsibilities include advocating for youth rights, enhancing awareness of the CFYPS, supporting the development and implementation of National Action Plans, conducting youth engagement activities across regions, and representing youth perspectives in key AU meetings, dialogues, and capacity-building programmes.

    Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Be African youth aged 18–35.
    • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Possess a minimum of two years’ experience in peace and security, including advocacy and resource mobilisation.
    • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, mediation, or multi-stakeholder dialogue processes.
    • Strong advocacy and communication capabilities.
    • Fluency in any of the AU working languages (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, or Swahili). Knowledge of additional AU languages is an added advantage.
    • Applicants from young women, persons with disabilities, and displaced populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Benefits / Award Details

Selected candidates will serve as regional Youth Ambassadors, working directly with the AU to influence youth participation in peace and security processes. They will gain access to continental platforms, advocacy tools, partnership networks, and capacity-building opportunities that strengthen their leadership in peace and conflict prevention.

    Application Requirements / Documents

    Applicants must submit the following:

    • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
    • A two-page essay outlining their qualifications and the impact they intend to make within peace and security.
    • Copies of educational certificates and any relevant training certifications.

    Timeline / Key Dates

    • Application Deadline: 15 December 2025
(Note: Some AU listings indicate 14 December 2025; applicants are encouraged to submit early.)

    How to Apply

Applications must be completed and submitted through the official online application form. All required documents should be uploaded as instructed.

    Selection Process

Eligible applicants will be assessed on their academic background, experience in peace and security, leadership potential, advocacy skills, and demonstrated commitment to youth engagement. Selected candidates will be appointed as Youth Ambassadors for their respective regions and will engage in AU-led peace and security initiatives.

    Additional Information / Terms

The programme emphasises multilingualism, youth inclusion, and regional representation. AYAPs are expected to actively participate in AU-related meetings, support regional youth consultations, and contribute to policy advocacy and outreach efforts aligned with the Continental Framework on Youth, Peace and Security.

    Host Organisation

This opportunity is hosted by the African Union (AU) under the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department, within the Youth for Peace (Africa) Programme.
