    IJP German–Latin American Programme 2026–2027

    Deadline: November 23, 2025

Applications are now open for the IJP German–Latin American Programme 2026–2027, a prestigious journalism exchange initiative designed to strengthen professional and cultural ties between Germany and Latin America. This unique fellowship offers talented Latin American journalists the opportunity to work in leading German media organisations, experience cross-border journalism, and deepen their understanding of the country’s political, social, and economic landscape.

The IJP German–Latin American Programme 2026–2027 stands out as a two-month fully funded placement programme, promoting collaboration and mutual learning between Latin American and German journalists.

    About the Opportunity

The International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) invites applications from passionate journalists across Latin America for its 2026–2027 German–Latin American Fellowship. The programme fosters international dialogue by connecting Latin American journalists with their counterparts in Germany, enabling them to share perspectives, strengthen their professional networks, and report on topics that build bridges between the two regions.

Each selected fellow will spend two months working in a German host media organisation, gaining first-hand insights into German journalism practices and society. The fellowship includes a preparatory seminar in Germany and a mid-term trip, both designed to enhance the intercultural learning experience.

    Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Be professional journalists aged between 25 and 38 years.
    • Hold citizenship or residence in a Latin American country.
    • Demonstrate a strong interest in Germany and its relations with Latin America.
    • Have a good command of German. However, candidates who do not speak German but have excellent English skills may also be considered.

    Benefits / Award Details

    • Fellows will receive a €4,000 scholarship to cover living and travel expenses during their stay in Germany.
      • €3,500 is paid at the beginning of the fellowship.
      • The remaining €500 is paid after submission of the final journalistic report on the fellowship experience.
    • The scholarship is designed to cover accommodation, travel, and day-to-day expenses.
    • Accommodation for the introductory seminar and mid-term meeting in Germany is provided by IJP.
    • Fellows will have access to leading German media institutions and will be supported in securing placements that align with their professional interests.

    Application Requirements / Documents

Applicants must compile their application into one single PDF file, which should include:

    1. Letter of motivation (in German or English).
    2. Three short story pitches outlining the journalistic topics they wish to pursue during their fellowship.
    3. Curriculum Vitae (CV) in tabular form.
    4. Language certificates (if available).
    5. Three samples of published journalistic work.
    6. One recommendation letter from a supervisor or editor.
    7. Three proposed story ideas related to German-Latin American affairs.

All documents should be neatly compiled into a single PDF file and submitted by the deadline.

    Timeline / Key Dates

    • Application deadline: 23 November 2025.
    • Fellowship period: 2026–2027 (exact dates to be announced to successful applicants).
    • The selection process and interview notifications will follow shortly after the application deadline.

    How to Apply

Applicants should send all required documents in one PDF file to the designated programme email address indicated in the official call. Ensure that your file name includes your full name and country of origin. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

    Selection Process

Selection is based on the quality of the applicant’s journalistic work, motivation letter, and proposed story ideas. The committee evaluates each applicant’s potential to contribute meaningfully to international journalism and strengthen the dialogue between Germany and Latin America. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews before the final selection.

    Additional Information / Terms

Fellows are expected to work independently during their stay, producing content that reflects their professional expertise while exploring topics relevant to both Germany and Latin America. Participants must submit a journalistic report about their fellowship experience by the end of their stay to receive the final instalment of the scholarship.

Accommodation and travel for official seminars are covered by the programme. However, participants are responsible for managing their personal expenses within the provided stipend.

    Host Organisation

The International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) is a non-profit organisation based in Germany dedicated to fostering international understanding through media exchange. It operates several bilateral fellowship initiatives connecting journalists from different regions, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.
