    ALESA Climate Justice Incubator 2026

    Applications are now open for the ALESA Climate Justice Incubator 2026, an inspiring 12-month programme designed to empower young civic leaders across East and Southern Africa. The initiative provides mentorship, training, and resources to help youth design and implement impactful climate justice projects within their communities. Through this incubator, emerging leaders will gain the tools to drive climate action, advocacy, and accountability on a local and regional scale.

    The ALESA Climate Justice Incubator 2026 is implemented by Accountability Lab East and Southern Africa (ALESA) and aims to support passionate young changemakers committed to creating inclusive, sustainable solutions to the climate crisis.


    About the Opportunity

    The ALESA Climate Justice Incubator is a comprehensive year-long programme tailored for young civic innovators who are eager to develop and execute community-driven climate justice initiatives. Participants will be guided by experienced mentors and exposed to a range of workshops and training sessions focusing on leadership, storytelling, advocacy, and systems transformation.

    By the end of the programme, participants are expected to have successfully implemented a climate justice project in their community, strengthened their leadership and advocacy skills, built strong partnerships, and joined a growing network of accountability champions across the region.


    Target Countries

    The incubator is open to young leaders residing in the following countries:

    • Malawi
    • Kenya
    • Tanzania
    • Uganda
    • Zimbabwe

    Thematic Pillars

    Applicants are encouraged to design their projects around one or more of the following thematic pillars:

    1. Climate Justice Innovation: Exploring creative and practical solutions—whether technological, social, or policy-based—to advance climate justice.
    2. Community-Led Resilience and Adaptation: Building local resilience through indigenous knowledge, traditional practices, and inclusive community engagement.
    3. Storytelling and Advocacy: Using creative communication tools and narratives to amplify voices and promote behavioural change around climate issues.
    4. Transformative Systems and Policy Change: Strengthening governance, transparency in climate finance, and institutional accountability.
    5. Intersectional Climate Action: Linking climate justice with issues such as gender, culture, economy, and broader social justice movements.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old.
    • Must be based in one of the eligible East or Southern African countries listed above.
    • Should demonstrate a clear passion and commitment to climate justice and community impact.
    • Must have a project idea or initiative addressing one or more of the thematic pillars.
