Deadline: November 15, 2025
Applications are now open for the IJP German-Northern European Programme 2026 (Funded). This prestigious fellowship provides journalists from the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as Germany, the opportunity to participate in a cross-border professional exchange aimed at deepening understanding and fostering collaboration between Germany and Northern Europe. Each year, the programme brings together emerging and established media professionals to gain firsthand experience in partner countries’ journalistic practices, culture, and society.
About the Opportunity
The IJP German-Northern European Programme 2026 serves as an active dialogue platform between Germany and the Nordic and Baltic states—namely Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Through this fellowship, up to 22 participants are selected: journalists from the Nordic and Baltic countries are placed with leading editorial offices in Germany, while 11 German journalists are hosted by media outlets in Northern Europe.
The initiative promotes professional exchange, mutual understanding, and the creation of enduring journalistic networks across borders.
The deadline to apply for the programme is 15 November 2025.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a journalist aged between 18 and 45 years.
- Be a freelancer, trainee, or editor working in a recognised media outlet within one of the Nordic or Baltic countries (or Germany for the outbound programme).
- Possess a solid journalistic background and interest in international reporting.
- German language proficiency is not required for Northern European applicants; however, participants should have a good command of English.
Benefits/Award Details
Selected fellows receive a one-time grant of €3,800 to partially cover travel, accommodation, and personal expenses during their stay in Germany.
Additional expenses beyond this allowance are the responsibility of the participant. While payment of a working salary during the fellowship is not guaranteed, it may be provided depending on arrangements with the host media outlet.
The fellowship offers an unparalleled opportunity for cultural immersion, networking, and collaboration with leading journalists and media institutions.
