    Fundación Mujeres por África Science by Women Programme 2026

    Are you a woman researcher in Africa seeking to expand your scientific career on a global stage? The Fundación Mujeres por África Science by Women Programme 2026 invites outstanding African female scientists to apply for one of 17 prestigious post-doctoral fellowships in Spain’s leading research centres.

    This highly competitive initiative aims to promote African women’s leadership in scientific research and innovation, empowering them to drive sustainable development across the continent.


    About the Science by Women Programme 2026

    The Science by Women Programme 2026, organised by the Fundación Mujeres por África (FMxA), brings together 15 renowned Spanish research centres to host exceptional African female scientists.

    The programme offers 17 six-month post-doctoral fellowships to researchers who demonstrate exceptional potential and are currently affiliated with a university or research organisation in Africa.

    The goal is to enhance scientific capacity, foster international collaboration, and enable participants to contribute to innovative research that addresses Africa’s most pressing challenges.


    Fields of Research

    The programme supports research in a wide range of disciplines, with a strong focus on issues critical to Africa’s sustainable development. These include:

    • Health
    • Agriculture and Food Security
    • Water and Sanitation
    • Mathematics
    • Astronomy
    • Energy
    • Climate Change

    Each selected fellow will conduct her research at one of Spain’s top institutions specialising in these fields.


    Fellowship Benefits

    Successful applicants to the Fundación Mujeres por África Science by Women Programme 2026 will receive comprehensive financial and institutional support, including:

    • Monthly living allowance: €2,600 gross (approx. €1,976 net after tax)
    • Round-trip airfare: Up to €1,800 from the fellow’s home country to the host city in Spain
    • Visa and administrative costs: Reimbursement up to €400 (upon submission of receipts)
    • Additional funding: Potential financial support for participation in seminars, workshops, or scientific conferences during the fellowship

    These benefits are designed to ensure fellows can fully focus on their research while building long-term partnerships with their host institutions.


    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the Science by Women Programme 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Be a woman of African nationality, residing and working in an African country
    • Hold a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline at the time of application
    • Have a contractual relationship with a recognised African university or research centre
    • Demonstrate an excellent research record and leadership potential in their field
    • Possess a high level of English proficiency (Spanish is not mandatory but advantageous)

    Applicants are encouraged to clearly show how their research aligns with the priorities and expertise of their chosen host centre(s).


    Selection Criteria

    The selection process will evaluate candidates based on:

    • Academic and research achievements
    • Relevance and innovation of the proposed research project
    • Compatibility of research interests with the host institution
    • Potential economic and social impact of the research
    • Clarity and feasibility of the dissemination plan
    • Ethical considerations and scientific integrity

    Duration and Host Institutions

    The fellowships last six months and take place at 15 participating Spanish research centres, which are leaders in their respective fields.
    Each research centre provides an enabling environment for cutting-edge research, mentorship, and networking opportunities.


    Application Deadline

    Applications for the Fundación Mujeres por África Science by Women Programme 2026 must be submitted by 30 November 2025.
    Early applications are strongly encouraged to ensure sufficient time for document verification and matching with host centres.

    Applicants must complete an online application form and upload all required documents, including:

    • A detailed research proposal aligned with one of the host institutions
    • An updated CV (maximum three pages)
    • A valid PhD certificate
    • Proof of employment or contractual relationship with an African research institution
