    Archiving Fellowship Program 2026

    Deadline: October 31, 2025

Are you passionate about Nigeria’s history and eager to uncover the patterns that shape its present? The Archiving Fellowship Program 2026 invites storytellers, researchers, and technologists to explore how archives can help us understand and reimagine the Nigerian experience.

This six-month fellowship, hosted by Archivi.ng, offers a unique opportunity to dive deep into Nigeria’s historical archives, build innovative projects, and tell stories that connect the past and the present under the theme “The More Things Change.”

About the Archiving Fellowship Program 2026

The Archiving Fellowship Program 2026 is a six-month immersive experience (January – June 2026) designed to support individuals working at the intersection of history, storytelling, research, and technology.

Through this programme, fellows will investigate recurring patterns in Nigerian society and explore how historical materials can be used to illuminate today’s realities. The fellowship aims to make history more accessible, engaging, and relevant to modern audiences.

    Fellowship Tracks

Fellows will participate under one of three specialised tracks, each designed to highlight different dimensions of archival work:

    1. Storytelling Track

For creative professionals producing compelling narratives that connect Nigeria’s past to its present—through written stories, podcasts, films, or multimedia experiences.

    2. Research Track

For scholars, analysts, and historians conducting rigorous research and analysis on Nigeria’s historical and contemporary issues using archival materials.

    3. Technology Track

For developers, data scientists, and digital creators building tools, interfaces, and interactive experiences that transform archival data into public-usable context and knowledge.

    Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive generous financial and institutional support throughout the six-month programme. Benefits include:

    • ₦1 Million Monthly Stipend from January to June 2026.
    • ₦1 Million Project Support Grant to fund project execution and development.
    • Full access to Archivi.ng’s archives and digital tools for research and innovation.
    • Opportunities for publication, exhibition, or technical integration of final projects.
    • Participation in learning circles and peer-review sessions with other fellows.

This combination of funding, access, and collaboration ensures that fellows can focus fully on creating impactful, publicly accessible work that preserves and reinterprets Nigeria’s history.

    Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Archiving Fellowship Program 2026, applicants must:

    • Be Nigerian, residing either within Nigeria or in the diaspora.
    • Demonstrate deep curiosity about Nigerian history and proven ability in at least one of the following areas: storytelling, research, or technology development.
    • Show a commitment to producing excellent, useful, and publicly accessible work.
    • Be comfortable working independently while embracing collaboration and feedback.
    • Be digitally literate and familiar with tools like Notion, Slack, and other online collaboration platforms.

    Application Details

    • Application Deadline: 11:59 PM (WAT), 31 October 2025
    • Shortlist Notification: On or before 30 November 2025
    • Fellowship Duration: January – June 2026

    Why You Should Apply

The Archiving Fellowship Program 2026 is a rare opportunity for Nigerians passionate about history, storytelling, and innovation. Whether you are a writer uncovering forgotten narratives, a researcher mapping patterns of change, or a technologist creating interactive historical tools, this fellowship offers both the financial support and intellectual community to bring your ideas to life.
