    This programme aims to nurture the next generation of Canadian art scholars and broaden perspectives within the field of art history by amplifying diverse, underrepresented voices.


    About the Art Canada Institute New Voices Publishing Fellowship 2026

    The Art Canada Institute New Voices Publishing Fellowship 2026 provides one emerging post-doctoral scholar with a publishing contract to develop an online art book through the Art Canada Institute (ACI). The selected fellow will receive comprehensive support, including mentorship, editorial assistance, and engagement with a vibrant community of artists, scholars, and patrons.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for the Art Canada Institute New Voices Publishing Fellowship 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Hold a PhD (in art history or a closely related discipline) completed within the past seven (7) years.
    • Demonstrate substantial knowledge or experience in the study of Canadian art, which includes historical, contemporary, Indigenous, and diasporic practices.
    • Be committed to producing a manuscript of approximately 30,000–40,000 words over the fellowship period.

    The fellowship seeks candidates whose work expands the understanding of Canadian art and reflects diverse perspectives and narratives.


    Eligible Project Topics

    The Art Canada Institute encourages a wide range of project proposals for the New Voices Publishing Fellowship 2026, including but not limited to:

    • Studies on Canadian and Indigenous artists, collectives, and art movements in any medium or time period.
    • Surveys of major genres and practices such as craft, ceramics, sculpture, landscape, and digital art.
    • Research exploring key themes or critical issues in Canadian art history, including identity, migration, race, and gender.
    • Innovative reinterpretations of canonical Canadian artists through new critical or theoretical frameworks.

    Applicants are encouraged to propose fresh, original projects that bring new insight to Canada’s artistic heritage and contemporary practice.
