🏛️ About the European Union Traineeship for Young Graduates at the EU Delegation to the African Union 2025
The European Union Traineeship for Young Graduates at the EU Delegation to the African Union 2025 is a funded, full-time traineeship programme lasting up to six (6) months. Successful candidates will be hosted at the EU Delegation to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Trainees will be placed within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section, supporting political analysis, research, communication, press engagement, and event organisation. This hands-on experience helps participants gain a better understanding of the European Union’s external relations and its engagement with the African Union.
Start Date: November 2025 (earliest possible start)
Duration: Up to 6 months

Traineeship Description and Responsibilities
As a trainee in the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section, your daily work will include:
- Conducting political research and analysis on EU–AU relations and African governance issues.
- Supporting press and media activities, including drafting newsletters, press releases, and social media content.
- Assisting in the preparation and organisation of public events and communication campaigns.
- Contributing to internal reports and briefing notes for EU officials.
- Helping to create communication materials (including infographics, blog posts, and visual content using tools such as Canva).
This role is ideal for individuals who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn about international cooperation, diplomacy, and institutional communication.
Financial Details
The traineeship is paid — selected candidates will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses during the traineeship period.
However, note the following important details:
- The grant is meant to support living expenses in Ethiopia.
- Travel costs, visa fees, insurance, and accommodation are the trainee’s responsibility and will not be covered by the EU Delegation.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the European Union Traineeship for Young Graduates at the EU Delegation to the African Union 2025, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a Master’s degree in communication, journalism, political science, international relations, economics, law, or other related social sciences.
- Demonstrate proven experience in communication, journalism, or media (if not from a communication-related degree).
- Have no more than one (1) year of work experience after graduation.
- Be fluent in English (working knowledge of French is an added advantage).
- Possess excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
- Be comfortable using communication tools and design platforms such as Canva or similar applications.
- Show a strong interest in EU and AU political, social, and economic affairs.
- Display a proactive, reliable, and hands-on attitude, with a keen willingness to learn.
- ⚠️ Important: Only applicants residing in Ethiopia at the time of application will be considered, due to local health and security regulations.
