    Eligibility Criteria

    To apply for the IMF Economist Program 2026, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • PhD in relevant fields: Applicants must have completed or be close to completing a PhD in macroeconomics, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, political economy, econometrics, or closely related areas.
    • Timing of completion: The PhD must be completed within one year (or less) of joining the programme.
    • Strong macroeconomic knowledge: Ability to explain complex economic linkages using conceptual frameworks.
    • Excellent academic record.

    • Fluent written and spoken English.
    • Nationality: Must be a citizen of an IMF member country.
    • Age: Must be under 34 years old at the time of entry (8 September 2026).
