    The The Open Notebook Early-Career Fellowship Program 2026 is designed to support early-career science journalists in developing their reporting and writing skills. Below are the key details of the fellowship:

    Fellows will engage in pitching, reporting, and writing articles for publication at The Open Notebook, with a focus on “story behind the story” interviews and reported features. Weekly mentorship meetings with experienced science journalists will provide guidance on story ideas, reporting techniques, writing, and overall career development.

    Additionally, fellows will join a Slack community connecting current and former fellows with TON editors. This interactive cohort-based environment encourages discussions, skill-building, and networking opportunities within the science journalism community.

    The fellowship is open to early-career science journalists with less than three years of professional experience. Ideal applicants should demonstrate:
