    Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellowship on Contemporary Asia 2026-2027

The Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellowship on Contemporary Asia 2026-2027 at Stanford University offers an excellent opportunity for scholars to pursue independent research, collaborate with experts, and contribute to new knowledge on the region.

    Hosted by the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC), this fellowship provides a platform for young researchers to explore pressing issues shaping Asia’s political, economic, and social landscape.


    About the Fellowship

    The Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellowship on Contemporary Asia 2026-2027 is designed to support advanced research on topics related to contemporary Asia. The programme will appoint two postdoctoral fellows for the academic year 2026–2027.

    Research areas of interest include:

    • Political, economic, or social change in Northeast, Southeast, or South Asia
    • International relations and international political economy of the Asia-Pacific

    Fellows will be fully engaged with Shorenstein APARC activities, including participation in seminars, collaborative research, and publication programmes.


    Fellowship Duration

    • Length: 10 months
    • Start: Autumn quarter of the 2026–2027 academic year

    Benefits

    Successful fellows will receive:

    • Salary: Approximately USD $80,000 per year (prorated for 10 months, subject to Stanford University policy)
    • Research allowance: Up to USD $3,000 for approved research expenses
    • Academic engagement: Full access to Shorenstein APARC resources, seminars, and professional networking opportunities

    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellowship on Contemporary Asia 2026-2027, applicants must:

    • Hold a PhD awarded no more than three years before the start of the fellowship
    • Have their dissertation approved and degree conferred by June 30, 2026
    • Provide proof of completion or certification of the PhD by August 31, 2026
    • Demonstrate a strong research agenda focused on contemporary Asia or its international relations

    Application Requirements

    Applicants must submit the following documents (all in PDF format):

    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Research Statement: Maximum 5 pages, double-spaced, outlining the proposed research project and intended publishable outcome
    • Three Letters of Recommendation: To be sent directly by referees, or via email/dossier service
