About the Fellowship
The Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellowship on Contemporary Asia 2026-2027 is designed to support advanced research on topics related to contemporary Asia. The programme will appoint two postdoctoral fellows for the academic year 2026–2027.
Research areas of interest include:
- Political, economic, or social change in Northeast, Southeast, or South Asia
- International relations and international political economy of the Asia-Pacific
Fellows will be fully engaged with Shorenstein APARC activities, including participation in seminars, collaborative research, and publication programmes.
Fellowship Duration
- Length: 10 months
- Start: Autumn quarter of the 2026–2027 academic year
Benefits
Successful fellows will receive:
- Salary: Approximately USD $80,000 per year (prorated for 10 months, subject to Stanford University policy)

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellowship on Contemporary Asia 2026-2027, applicants must:
- Hold a PhD awarded no more than three years before the start of the fellowship
- Have their dissertation approved and degree conferred by June 30, 2026
- Provide proof of completion or certification of the PhD by August 31, 2026
- Demonstrate a strong research agenda focused on contemporary Asia or its international relations
