Echoes of the Earth Book Cover Design Competition 2025

    Deadline: October 10, 2025

Are you a Black designer passionate about creativity, ecology, and justice? The Echoes of the Earth Book Cover Design Competition 2025 is your opportunity to showcase your talent on a global stage. Organised by Cassava Republic Press in partnership with Opportunity Desk, this competition invites designers worldwide to create a striking book cover for the anthology Echoes of the Earth: Black Voices Reclaiming Ecology and Justice.

This competition offers a unique chance not only to win prizes but also to have your work published and recognised internationally.

    About the Competition

The Echoes of the Earth Book Cover Design Competition 2025 is open to Black designers across the globe who are 18 years and above. You don’t need to be an experienced book designer to participate — the organisers welcome both emerging and established creatives.

The selected winning cover design will represent a powerful anthology amplifying Black voices on ecology and justice, making this a platform that merges artistic vision with social relevance.

    Prizes

Winners and runners-up will receive both recognition and financial rewards:

    • Winner: $750 USD and their design featured on the book (front cover, spine, and back).
    • Two Runners-up: $200 USD each, plus possible opportunities for future collaborations with Cassava Republic Press.

Note: The final winning cover design may be revised in collaboration with the publisher to meet production needs.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To apply, you must:

    • Be a Black designer (emerging or established).
    • Be 18 years or older.
    • Be based anywhere in the world.

No prior book cover design experience is required, making this an inclusive opportunity for all levels of designers.

    Submission Requirements

    Applicants must prepare the following:

    • Up to two original front cover designs for Echoes of the Earth.
    • A portfolio showcasing previous design work.
    • A design concept statement (maximum 250 words) explaining the inspiration and thought process behind the cover design.

    Application Process and Deadline

    • Deadline for submission: October 10, 2025.
    • Applications are submitted online through the official form.

This is a time-sensitive opportunity — ensure your designs and portfolio are ready well before the deadline.

    Tips for a Strong Application

To boost your chances of winning:

    • Be concept-driven: Align your design with the anthology’s themes — ecology, justice, and Black voices.
    • Prioritise clarity: Your cover should remain legible and striking, even when viewed as a thumbnail.
    • Show diversity: Use your portfolio to highlight a range of skills and styles.
    • Craft a compelling statement: Use the 250 words to connect your design to the deeper themes of ecology and justice.
    • Follow the rules: Double-check all file requirements and deadlines.

    Conclusion

The Echoes of the Earth Book Cover Design Competition 2025 is more than a contest — it’s a chance to leave your mark on an important global anthology. With cash prizes, international exposure, and the possibility of future collaborations, this competition is not to be missed if you are a Black designer ready to showcase your creativity.
