    UBA National Essay Competition 2025

    The UBA National Essay Competition 2025 is now open for entries! Organised by the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Foundation, this annual initiative is designed to encourage critical thinking, intellectual growth, and a reading culture among Nigerian secondary school students. With millions of naira in educational grants at stake, this competition offers a life-changing opportunity for young Nigerians to showcase their writing skills and contribute to national dialogue.


    About the UBA National Essay Competition 2025

    The competition targets Senior Secondary School students in Nigeria and challenges them to express their perspectives on pressing societal issues through essays. This year’s topic reflects Nigeria’s unique cultural identity and the role of young people in nation building.

    Essay Topic:
    “Nigeria is Characterised By Diverse Cultures, Ethnicities, and Religions. How Can Young Nigerians Deploy Diversity to Build a United Nation?”


    Eligibility Criteria

    To participate in the UBA National Essay Competition 2025, applicants must:

    • Be Senior Secondary School students in Nigeria.
    • Submit an essay that:
      • Is handwritten.
      • Does not exceed 750 words.
      • Carries the student’s full name.

    In addition, applicants must include:

    • A recent passport photograph.
    • A valid form of identification (Birth Certificate, National ID Card, or International Passport).

    Competition Process

    The UBA National Essay Competition 2025 will unfold in two main stages:

    1. Call for Entries – The top 12 essays will be selected by a panel of judges.
    2. Final Stage – The shortlisted candidates will participate in a physical test to determine the ultimate winners.

    Prizes

    Winners of the UBA National Essay Competition 2025 will receive substantial educational grants to study at any African university of their choice:

    • Winner: ₦10 million educational grant.
    • 1st Runner-up: ₦7.5 million educational grant.
    • 2nd Runner-up: ₦5 million educational grant.

    Deadline

    The deadline for submission is October 17, 2025. Late entries will not be considered, so students are encouraged to apply early.

    1. Plan Your Essay – Structure your ideas with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.
