    Pembroke Center Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2026-2027

The Pembroke Center Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2026-2027 at Brown University offer a unique one-year residency for postdoctoral researchers whose work engages with the 2026–2027 Pembroke Seminar theme: “The Meanings of Merit: Labor, Categories of Difference, and the Creation of Knowledge.”

    This prestigious programme provides fellows with salary, research support, and teaching opportunities, making it an excellent platform for professional development.


    About the Pembroke Center Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

    The fellowship will run from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, and is hosted at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. Fellows are expected to pursue their independent research while participating in the collaborative and interdisciplinary activities of the Pembroke Center.

    Theme for 2026–2027

    Fellows’ research should engage with the theme “The Meanings of Merit: Labor, Categories of Difference, and the Creation of Knowledge.” Applicants must demonstrate how their work contributes to this broad scholarly conversation.


    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the Pembroke Center Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2026-2027, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Hold a PhD by the start of the fellowship.
    • Have received their PhD within the last five years at the time of appointment.
    • Be from institutions other than Brown University.
    • Must not hold a tenured position.

    Fellowship Benefits

    Selected fellows will receive:

    • Salary between $62,232 and $67,824, depending on experience.
    • $2,000 research expense fund.
    • A one-time $1,000 relocation stipend to assist with moving to Providence.
    • Health and dental benefits through Brown University.

    Responsibilities of Fellows

    During the fellowship year, fellows are expected to:

    • Conduct independent research aligned with the seminar theme.
    • Teach one or more undergraduate courses of their own design, particularly in the field of Gender and Sexuality Studies.
    • Actively participate in Pembroke Seminar events, including interdisciplinary collaborations, mentoring, and professional development activities.

    Application Requirements

    Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents:

    1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    2. Cover Letter – outlining how your research aligns with the seminar theme and including a description of a proposed course.
    3. Writing Sample – maximum 7,000 words.

    Additional Materials for Finalists

    Finalists will be required to provide:

    • A title and 250-word abstract of the proposed research.
    • A five-page project statement.
    • A representative bibliography.
    • Three confidential recommendation letters.
    • A detailed undergraduate course syllabus with a reading schedule for a seminar in Gender and Sexuality Studies.
