The AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Agricultural Sciences 2026 is now open for applications. This unique leadership and mentoring initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of young African women in agricultural sciences, preparing them to excel as leaders, influencers, and changemakers.


About the Program

The AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Agricultural Sciences 2026 is an initiative of African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

The program seeks to:

  • Build a pool of confident, capable African women leaders in agriculture.
  • Equip participants with leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
  • Promote gender-responsive agricultural research.
  • Enhance women’s visibility and recognition in agricultural science across Africa.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Gender and Age: Be a young African woman agricultural scientist under 35 years old.
  2. Nationality: Be a national of one of these countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, or Zambia.
  3. Education: Hold at least a bachelor’s degree in an agriculture-related field.
  4. Residency and Work: Reside in Africa and be actively engaged in agriculture-related professional work (in academia, government, NGOs, or private sector).
  5. Exclusivity: Must not already be a Fellow or Laureate of any other AWARD fellowship.
