    Deadline: October 12, 2025

The Nordic Scholarship Programme 2026 is now open for applications, offering a unique opportunity for Master’s students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers in the Social Sciences and Humanities to further their Africa-oriented research. The programme, hosted at the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in Uppsala, Sweden, provides one month of intensive academic engagement, networking, and research support.

This scholarship is designed to strengthen Africa-related scholarship in the Nordic countries and build collaboration between young researchers and the academic community at NAI.

    Application Deadline

The deadline to apply for the Nordic Scholarship Programme 2026 is 12 October 2025.

    Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

    • Be a Master’s student, PhD candidate, or postdoctoral researcher in the field of Social Sciences or Humanities.
    • Be affiliated with a university or research centre in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland (nationality is not a barrier).
    • Demonstrate an Africa-oriented research focus.

    Programme Duration and Location

    • The scholarship consists of a one-month research visit at the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in Uppsala, Sweden.

    Benefits of the Scholarship

The Nordic Scholarship Programme 2026 provides:

    • Travel expenses: coverage of the least expensive airfare from your place of residence (within the eligible countries) to Uppsala and back.
    • Workspace: a desk and computer in a shared office at NAI.
    • Accommodation: centrally located housing in Uppsala.
    • Subsistence allowance: 400 SEK per day for living expenses.
    • Free photocopying: up to 1,000 copies during your stay.

    Costs Not Covered

Applicants should note that the programme does not cover health care insurance or other personal insurance. Successful candidates are therefore required to arrange their own coverage.
