Hosted by the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH), this fellowship provides funding, protection, and resources for at-risk scholars working in the fields of contemporary, public, and digital history.


Fellowship Overview

The C²DH Scholar at Risk Fellowship 2026 is a two-month programme that aims to support researchers facing danger in their home countries. This fellowship is designed to promote international collaboration and knowledge exchange in the fields of:

  • Contemporary History of Luxembourg
  • Public History
  • Contemporary European History
  • Digital History & Historiography

Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive comprehensive support, including:

  • €1,200 per month for accommodation costs
  • €1,800 per month for daily living expenses
  • Full coverage of travel and insurance
  • Office space and logistical support in Luxembourg (or the Greater Region)
  • Assistance in securing suitable accommodation
  • Opportunities to present research in seminars or colloquia at the University of Luxembourg

This package ensures scholars can continue their academic work without financial stress while being part of an active international research community.


Eligibility Criteria

The fellowship is open to scholars at risk, defined as researchers who are:

  • Experiencing violence, harassment, or persecution
  • Facing arrest threats or general physical danger due to conflict
  • Displaced or unable to work in their home country

Applicants are expected to:

  • Propose a research project relevant to the C²DH themes
  • Be available to reside in Luxembourg or the Greater Region during the fellowship
  • Present their research in a seminar or colloquium before the end of the stay
