    Melton Foundation Global Citizenship Video Essay Competition 2025

    The Melton Foundation Global Citizenship Video Essay Competition 2025 is an exciting initiative designed to engage young Africans in shaping the future of the continent through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This competition provides a unique platform for youth aged 18 to 30 to share their ideas, creativity, and solutions for Africa’s development challenges.

    Organised by the Melton Foundation Africa in collaboration with Global Goals Week, the competition calls on participants to create video essays that reflect on the SDGs and explore innovative ways to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous Africa.


    Eligibility Criteria

    The competition is open to:

    • Individuals aged 18–30 from across Africa.
    • Participants must submit original video essays reflecting their personal insights and solutions related to the SDGs.

    Application Deadline

    All submissions must be received by September 14, 2025. Early submissions are encouraged to ensure participation.


    Themes of the Competition

    Participants can select from the following three themes:

    1. Reimagining Africa

    Explore Africa’s development challenges and opportunities through the SDGs. Participants should propose practical ways in which youth can reshape the continent’s future, focusing on:

    • Identity and purpose
    • Youth empowerment and action
    • Innovative solutions to local challenges

    2. Beyond Borders, Beyond Barriers

    Discuss how young Africans can build a shared tomorrow through collaboration across:

    • Communities
    • Countries
    • Cultures

    Highlight the role of partnerships, technology, and shared learning in overcoming barriers.

    3. Young Africans as Global Citizens

    Reflect on how young Africans can act as global citizens by:

    • Contributing to the achievement of the SDGs
    • Promoting a sense of global responsibility
    • Inspiring other youth to take meaningful action

    Application Process

    To participate in the Melton Foundation Global Citizenship Video Essay Competition 2025, applicants should:

    1. Select a theme that resonates with them.
    2. Create a video essay addressing the chosen theme, grounded in the realities of Africa and inspired by the SDGs.
    3. Ensure the submission is original, creative, and reflective of the participant’s perspective.

    Video Guidelines:

    • Originality and creativity are highly encouraged.
    • Videos should clearly communicate solutions and ideas in alignment with the SDGs.
    • Focus on storytelling and actionable insights.
