    British Academy Global Innovation Fellowships

    Deadline: September 24, 2025

The British Academy Global Innovation Fellowships: Carnegie Endowment for International Peace 2026 is now open for applications. This prestigious opportunity is designed to strengthen the careers, networks, and skills of UK-based early- and mid-career researchers in the humanities and social sciences (the SHAPE community). Application Deadline

    • September 24, 2025

Applicants are encouraged to prepare early to ensure their materials meet the British Academy’s guidelines and requirements.

    Fellowship Overview

The Global Innovation Fellowships are aimed at bridging the gap between academic research and practical impact. Selected fellows will work directly with host institutions to develop new insights and contribute meaningfully to pressing global issues.

For the 2026 programme, up to two one-year fellowships will be awarded. Fellows will be hosted at one of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s global offices, located in:

    • Washington, DC
    • Singapore
    • Beirut

This placement is tailored to encourage research collaboration and enhance the translation of scholarly knowledge into actionable policy and institutional change.

    Funding and Benefits

Each award provides up to £150,000 (calculated on a Full Economic Costing basis at 80%) for the full 12-month fellowship period. The funding is designed to cover research activities, travel, accommodation, and living costs while abroad.

    Thematic Research Areas

Applicants must align their projects with one or more of the following priority themes identified by the British Academy and the Carnegie Endowment:

    • Security and Defence
    • Sustainability, Climate, and Geopolitics
    • Global Order and Institutions
    • South and East Asia
    • Middle East and North Africa

By situating research within these themes, fellows will be positioned to address globally significant challenges while contributing to academic and policy debates.

    Fellowship Duration and Start Dates

    • Standard start: September 2026
    • Early start option: March or April 2026 (for applicants who can demonstrate a clear relocation plan and readiness to commence earlier)

This flexibility is intended to support applicants with differing academic and personal schedules.
