Scheduled for 21–22 October 2025, the conference will take place in Pretoria, South Africa (Day 1 in-person and live-streamed; Day 2 fully online).

    Theme: Insight, Imagination, Action

    The African Futures Conference 2025 is centred on the theme “Insight, Imagination, Action”, which captures the core pillars of foresight and innovation:

    • Insight – Using data, evidence, and strategic forecasting to understand Africa’s developmental challenges and opportunities.
    • Imagination – Harnessing storytelling, creativity, and visionary thinking to inspire bold new possibilities for the continent.
    • Action – Embedding foresight into policy, governance, and implementation strategies to create measurable impact.

    Key Highlights of the Event

    Participants can look forward to an engaging and interactive programme that includes:

    • Launch of the Africa 2043 Futures Report
    • Keynote presentations and curated sessions led by experts and thought leaders
    • Interactive Futures Lab, where ideas are tested and refined collaboratively
    • Young Changemakers Competition, a fully funded opportunity for African youth to share their vision of Africa in 2050

    Format and Dates

    • Dates: 21–22 October 2025
    • Day 1: In-person at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), Pretoria, with live-streaming available globally
    • Day 2: Fully online to allow inclusive participation across the continent

    Who Should Apply?

    The conference welcomes contributions from a wide range of stakeholders including:

    Submission Categories

    Applicants can contribute in two main ways:

    1. Talks and Workshops

    You may submit a proposal to deliver:

    • Lightning Talk – 7 minutes
    • Presentation – 15 minutes
    • Workshop – 45 minutes

    2. Young Changemakers Competition

    If you are under 35, you can participate by submitting:

    • A 1,500-word written story, or
    • A 3-minute video presenting your vision of Africa in 2050

    Prize: The top 3 winners of the Young Changemakers Competition will be fully funded to attend the conference in Pretoria and present their vision.


    Application Process

    Applicants are required to complete an online submission form, providing the following details:

    • Name, affiliation, and contact details
    • Preferred format (talk, workshop, or changemaker story)
    • The conference pillar(s) your contribution aligns with (Insight, Imagination, Action)
    • Title and an abstract (maximum 300 words)

    • Application Deadline: 26 August 2025 (Tuesday)
    • Notification of Acceptance: 10 September 2025
    • Conference Dates: 21–22 October 2025
