    The Amazon Film Grant 2025 is now open for applications, offering a unique opportunity for mid-career journalists and filmmakers to create powerful short documentaries that capture the realities, challenges, and beauty of the Amazon region. This grant, delivered by One World Media in partnership with Mongabay, aims to spotlight character-driven storytelling focused on environmental conservation, ecosystem threats, and the lives of communities who depend on the Amazon for survival.

    With up to US $5,000 in funding and additional professional support, this programme is designed to help storytellers bring authentic and compelling Amazon narratives to an international audience.


    About the Amazon Film Grant 2025

    The Amazon Film Grant 2025 seeks to amplify voices and stories from one of the most critical and biodiverse regions in the world. Applicants will produce a 10-minute short documentary that highlights:

    • Urgent environmental conservation issues
    • The impact of climate change and ecosystem degradation
    • The resilience, traditions, and livelihoods of Amazon communities

    The chosen filmmaker will receive not just funding, but also mentorship, editorial guidance, and professional exposure through Mongabay and the One World Media Fellowship.


    Who Can Apply?

    This opportunity is open to mid-career journalists and filmmakers who have at least three years of professional experience. Applicants should either:

    • Be from the Amazon region, or
    • Be reporting on issues affecting the Amazon

    Eligible Countries

    Applications are welcomed from individuals connected to the following countries:
    Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela, and French Guiana.


    What the Grant Offers

    Successful applicants will receive:

    • Up to US $5,000 to produce their short documentary (approx. 10 minutes)
    • Mentorship and executive producer support throughout the production process
    • Editorial exposure via Mongabay’s global platforms
    • A place in the 2025 One World Media Fellowship cohort, which includes:
      • Specialised workshops
      • Peer-to-peer learning
      • Networking opportunities with industry leaders
