The UNU AI for SDGs — Global Youth AI Future Innovation Competition 2025 is now open to young innovators around the world! This prestigious global initiative, spearheaded by the United Nations University Global AI Network and co-organised with UNU Macau and Venture Cup China, aims to unlock the power of youth-led artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for sustainable development.

If you’re a tech-savvy changemaker with a working AI solution that can address the world’s pressing environmental challenges, this is your opportunity to make global impact.


Theme: AI for the Environment

The UNU AI for SDGs — Global Youth AI Future Innovation Competition 2025 has adopted the theme:
“AI for the Environment: Ecological Sustainability and the Green Transition.”

Participants are invited to submit AI innovations that align with this theme under one of four tracks:

  1. Climate Change Adaptation
  2. Environmental Protection & Conservation
  3. Clean Energy
  4. AI for Less Developed Countries

Who Can Apply?

The competition is open to a global audience. Applications are welcome from:

  • Individuals
  • Teams
  • Startups or organisations (companies must be less than 10 years old)

Your project must be AI-powered, address at least one of the four SDG tracks listed above, and be close to market-readiness, with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 7–9. This means it should be demonstrated in a real-world environment or ready for commercial deployment.

🗣️ Note: All applications must be in English.

Prizes and Benefits

Monetary Award

Each winning team will receive USD 1,000 (pre-tax) in their category.

🇲🇴 Macau Prize

A special award will be given to the most promising solution originating from Macau SAR, encouraging regional youth participation and innovation.
