    Are you a journalist or content creator passionate about telling transformative ocean stories in the Pacific? The EJN Deep Dive Fellowship 2025 offers a unique opportunity to receive funding and mentorship to create compelling, solution-driven ocean reporting. With grants of up to US $700 and a structured support system, this fellowship empowers participants to deepen their storytelling skills while spotlighting critical environmental issues in the Pacific region.


    About the EJN Deep Dive Fellowship 2025

    The EJN Deep Dive Fellowship 2025 is offered by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN), specifically for participants of The Deep Dive: Building Skills for Transformative Ocean Reporting—an intensive training series conducted between May and July 2025. This initiative supports both journalists and short-form digital content creators from Pacific countries in producing stories that promote ocean conservation, awareness, and climate resilience.


    Fellowship Benefits

    Selected fellows will receive:

    • Grant Amount: Up to US $700
    • Outputs Required:
      • Journalists: One in-depth ocean story
      • Content creators: Three short-form videos or creative pieces
    • Mentorship: Monthly one-on-one mentoring and peer-learning check-ins
    • Visibility: Opportunities to showcase work at key international events such as COP30 (Moana Pavilion)
    • Certificate of Completion at the programme’s virtual closeout in December 2025

    Eligibility Criteria

    General Eligibility

    • Must have completed The Deep Dive training series.
    • Must be based in a Pacific island country.
    • Must apply in English (though content can be produced in any language—with English subtitles if not in English).
    • Commitment to produce content between August and November 2025.

    For Content Creators

    • Must be independent (not affiliated with a media organisation).
    • Must regularly post original short-form content (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.).
    • Prior focus on ocean issues is a plus, but not required.

    For Journalists

    • Can be staff or freelance reporters.
    • Must demonstrate consistent reporting on environment, science, or policy issues.
    • Must have an active and professional presence on social media platforms (e.g. weekly posting).

    Selection Criteria

    Applications will be evaluated based on:

    • Track Record: Demonstrated consistency in storytelling and/or digital engagement.
    • Proposal Quality: Relevance, creativity, feasibility, and audience impact.
    • Innovation: Use of engaging formats, storytelling techniques, and multimedia.
    • Motivation & Availability: Commitment to deadlines and collaborative peer-learning activities.
