    Deadline: 31 October 2025

Coastal communities are on the frontlines of the climate crisis, facing increasing threats from sea-level rise, flooding, and erosion. In response, the Call for Proposals: Coastal Resilience to Climate Change seeks to fund innovative, scalable, and inclusive projects that enhance the adaptive capacity of coastal ecosystems and communities.

This funding opportunity offers a chance to build long-term resilience through nature-based solutions, infrastructure adaptation, and stakeholder-driven planning. The Call for Proposals: Coastal Resilience to Climate Change is now open to eligible organisations around the world.

    Purpose of the Funding

The primary goal of this call is to strengthen coastal resilience to climate change by funding impactful projects that reduce environmental risks while promoting sustainable development in vulnerable coastal areas.

    Eligible Activities

Applicants may propose one or more of the following project types:

    • Nature-Based or Hybrid Solutions:
Projects such as mangrove restoration, wetland conservation, living shorelines, dune systems, or “green-grey” infrastructure hybrids.
    • Infrastructure Resilience Upgrades:
Enhancements to coastal infrastructure, including climate-resilient drainage systems, sea walls, and flood control installations.
    • Community Engagement & Capacity Building:
Programmes that empower local communities through early-warning systems, training, participatory governance, and advocacy.
    • Ecosystem Restoration:
Reforestation with salt-tolerant species, marine habitat restoration, and conservation of biodiversity-rich coastal zones.

    Who Can Apply?

The following types of entities are generally eligible to apply:

    • Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
    • Municipal and regional governments
    • Universities and academic institutions
    • Public-private consortia
    • Social enterprises and commercial entities (where applicable)

Be sure to consult the funder’s eligibility guidelines to confirm if your organisation type and country are accepted.

    Funding Amount and Duration

While grant amounts vary depending on the specific funder, typical awards range from hundreds of thousands to several million USD or EUR.

Projects should generally span between 12 to 36 months, depending on the scope of work.

    Evaluation Criteria

Projects will be selected based on the following:

    • Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated community participation and local ownership.
    • Science-Based Approach: Use of environmental and climate data in planning and implementation.
    • Measurable Impact: Clear, quantifiable outcomes (e.g., hectares restored, people protected).
    • Sustainability: Long-term resilience building beyond the funding period.

    Examples of Similar Funding Programmes

    • National Coastal Resilience Fund (NFWF, USA) – Supports large-scale restoration and resilience efforts.
    • NOAA Climate Resilience Challenge – A $575 million programme for regional and local adaptation solutions.
    • ESA/EC Coastal Resilience Projects (Europe) – Focused on innovation in infrastructure and community planning.
    • InsuResilience Solutions Fund (Global) – Supports development of climate-risk insurance products and services.
