    The Simon Cumbers Media Fund 2025 seeks to promote high-quality media coverage of development issues. By supporting field-based reporting projects in developing countries, the fund ensures that the Irish public gains insight into the realities of life in the Global South. Projects should explore both the challenges and progress in areas such as sustainability, human rights, equity, and innovation.

    The fund encourages submissions that align with:

    • The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
    • Ireland’s official development policy, A Better World

    Who Can Apply?

    The fund is open to:

    • Irish journalists, whether freelance or staff-based
    • Applicants working with a media outlet that is a member of the Press Council of Ireland
    • Journalists with at least 12 months of experience
    • Media professionals with new, unpublished project ideas

    Applicants must also present a letter of commitment from an Irish media outlet confirming its intention to publish or broadcast the proposed work.

    Eligible Project Formats

    Funding is available for projects in various formats, including:

    • Print journalism
    • Broadcast media
    • Online content, including multimedia formats

    The central requirement is that the reporting must be field-based and focused on the Global South.
