    About the FSG Writers Fellowship 2026

    The FSG Writers Fellowship 2026, offered by renowned publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux (FSG), is designed to uplift and empower early-career writers from underrepresented backgrounds. The fellowship provides financial support, mentorship, and access to the publishing world for writers working on their first full-length manuscript in fiction, nonfiction, or poetry.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the FSG Writers Fellowship 2026, applicants must:

    • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
    • Identify as an emerging writer from an underrepresented background
    • Be over 18 years old and writing for an adult audience
    • Submit work written in English
    • Not have previously published a book-length work or be under contract to publish one (chapbooks and poetry chapbooks are allowed)
    • Not be employed by or closely related to an employee of FSG or its affiliates
    • Ensure that no AI-generated text is included in their application materials

    Application Requirements

    Applicants are required to submit the following:

    1. Writing Sample

    • Fiction or Nonfiction: 40–50 double-spaced pages
    • Poetry: 8–12 pages
    • Important: Remove all personally identifying information from the submitted writing sample.

    2. Statement of Purpose

    • Up to 500 words
    • Should explain your proposed project, why you are applying, and how the fellowship will support your development as a writer.

    Key Fellowship Conditions

    The selected fellow must agree to offer their first book-length manuscript to FSG before submitting to any other publisher. This ensures FSG has the first opportunity to publish the fellow’s debut work.
