    Deadline: July 31, 2025

Artificial Intelligence is powering Africa’s transformation in the manufacturing sector—and now, innovators across the continent have the opportunity to compete for $2 million in funding. The Milken-Motsepe Innovation Prize Program is calling for breakthrough AI ideas tailored to Africa’s manufacturing value chains as part of the movement to advance the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR).

This funding opportunity is designed to accelerate AI solutions that can improve efficiency, reduce waste, and create jobs. Whether you’re an established company, startup, or a driven team of innovators, this is your moment to drive real change in African industry.

About the Milken-Motsepe AI in Manufacturing Prize

The Milken-Motsepe AI in Manufacturing Prize supports AI applications with practical impact across Africa’s manufacturing ecosystem. The program will award $2 million in total funding, including:

    • $1,000,000 Grand Prize
    • $250,000 Runner-Up Prize
    • $100,000 4IR Excellence Prize
    • $50,000 for each of 10 semi-finalists
    • $30,000 for each of 5 finalists

These awards are designed to nurture ideas from concept to implementation, helping innovators scale their technologies and build strong partnerships with local manufacturers.

    Who Should Apply?

    The program is open to:

    • Individuals, teams, and companies operating in Africa’s manufacturing sector
    • Organizations with at least two years of operational history
    • Applicants at Series A funding stage or beyond
    • Innovators who can demonstrate a strong impact on workforce development and job creation

This is a perfect opportunity for solution providers looking to apply AI to real-world manufacturing challenges in the African context.

    What Are They Looking For?

    Proposals should demonstrate:

    • Tangible efficiency improvements in manufacturing processes
    • Waste reduction through AI and data-driven solutions
    • High scalability and commercial viability across African markets
    • Alignment with the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies—such as robotics, 3D printing, and automation

Emphasis will be placed on measurable impact, business feasibility, and readiness to operate in Africa’s industrial ecosystem.

    Application Deadline

Submit your application by July 31, 2025.

    To boost your chances:

    • Prepare data showing real or potential impact
    • Create a clear business plan
    • Develop partnerships with manufacturers to pilot your solution locally

    Why This Program Matters

Africa’s manufacturing sector is one of the continent’s fastest-growing industries. For every manufacturing job created, up to 20 additional jobs can emerge across the value chain. With AI and 4IR technologies, Africa can leapfrog outdated systems and build sustainable, inclusive industrial growth.

This initiative is more than a competition—it’s a blueprint for the future of African innovation and prosperity.
