    Deadline: August 19, 2025

The 2025 LEVANTE Call for Proposals is now officially open! This unique funding opportunity, spearheaded by the Jacobs Foundation, supports research that explores how children learn differently—across individuals, groups, and diverse contexts. With a total funding pool of USD 5 million for 2025, this call is a major highlight for educational researchers globally.

Whether you’re investigating learning variability in underrepresented regions or contributing to scalable insights on childhood education, the 2025 LEVANTE Call for Proposals presents a platform to secure substantial funding and join an international network of researchers.

    About the LEVANTE Initiative

LEVANTE (Learning Variability Network Exchange) is a flagship program under the Jacobs Foundation’s Strategy 2030. It focuses on understanding learning variability in children aged 5 to 12 through longitudinal, cross-cultural research. LEVANTE promotes open-science principles, data harmonization, and collaborative research that shapes policy and practice in education.

    Funding and Project Categories

The 2025 LEVANTE Call for Proposals offers flexible grant options across two funding categories:

    • Small Projects: Up to USD 600,000
    • Large Projects: Up to USD 1,000,000

All selected projects must run for a minimum duration of 4 years. Proposals should align with LEVANTE’s framework of examining learning at three levels:

    1. Individual – cognitive, emotional, and neurodevelopmental differences
    2. Group – socio-economic status, language, gender
    3. Contextual – school systems, geography, technology access

    Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Hold a PhD or equivalent obtained at least five years ago
    • Be affiliated with a university or recognized research institute
    • Use standardized, open-access measures aligned with LEVANTE protocols
    • Focus on typically developing children aged 5–12
    • Strongly encouraged: Proposals from or centered in underrepresented regions, particularly the Global South

    Key Dates to Remember

    • Call Opens: June 27, 2025
    • Application Deadline: August 19, 2025
    • Earliest Project Start Date: April 2026
(Final selections will be approved by the Jacobs Foundation Board in March 2026.)

    Application Process

The LEVANTE proposal process is structured in three stages:

    1. Initial Proposal Submission: Submit a brief proposal by August 19, 2025.
    2. Extended Proposal: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit detailed research plans.
    3. Interviews: Finalists may undergo interviews before funding decisions.

Benefits of Joining the LEVANTE Network

Becoming a LEVANTE researcher offers more than funding:

    • Global Collaboration: Join a growing network of scientists working on harmonized studies across continents.
    • Access to Tools: Utilize validated, gold-standard tools for measuring learning variability, curated by Stanford University.
    • Impactful Research: Contribute to real-world changes in education systems by focusing on variability rather than just averages.
    • Open Science: Contribute to a centralized, open-access data repository to drive future research and policy.

    Final Thoughts

The 2025 LEVANTE Call for Proposals is a major opportunity for education researchers to influence global learning outcomes and join a prestigious international initiative. If you are working in the area of learning variability in children and want to contribute to equitable education systems, this is your chance to secure substantial funding and amplify your research impact.
